Now: Less than 100,000 Tourists to Downtown Phoenix.

Tourists spend money, not ASU students.
The 2009-2010 Phoenix budget for City services needs to be significantly increased.
The shortfall in City services is because of less sales tax revenue.
The City receives 2% of all sales in Phoenix,
But 5% from hotel taxes, and 4% from auto rental taxes.
Who stays in hotels and rents car?
TOURISTS NOT STUDENTS!
How many Tourists visit Downtown Phoenix?
The City of Phoenix nor the
Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau ($8.1 million from the City of Phoenix each year) collects this information! (See City Data Memo)Why? Because the number of Tourists to Downtown is so dismal the number of Tourists is kept from the public.
Downtown Phoenix has less than 100,000 Tourists. Even if all convention delegates were lodged in Downtown Phoenix, less than 218,175 actually visited the Phoenix Convention Center in the first half of 2009. (See City Data Memo)

visited San Antonio last year.
Downtown Phoenix needs a new Vision.
Phoenix can become a World Class Destination City.
La Playa del Sol, Casino, and SeaWorld Phoenix will bring 8,000,000 Tourists.
The City of Phoenix Council election is September 1.
